SOME DEFINITIONS
Nomenclature of Bovines (cattle).
- Bull - entire, uncastrated male used for breeding
- Bull Calf - entire male calf
- Steer, Ox, Bullock - castrated male
- Stirk - may refer to weaned calf of either gender
- Cow - female that has produced young
- Heifer - female that has yet to give birth
- Weaned Calf - calf recently separated from its mother
- Stores - cattle of either gender prior to finishing and slaughter
Nomenclature of Ovines (sheep).
- Tup, Ram - entire male
- Wether, Wedder, Teg - castrated male
- Ewe - female that has produced young
- Gimmer, Ewe Hog - female that has yet to give birth
- Hogget - wether which is aged around one year or older
- Mutton - wether which is aged 2 years or older
